Alright! I'll start off the book reviews. I sat down and tried to think of one book or series I wanted to review. No matter how hard I tried Jim Butcher's "The Dresden Files" was the only one on my mind. I am too in love with this series to ignore the voice.
When I picked up the first book "Storm Front" I expected it to be a decent read. I watched the TV series and enjoyed the only season they gave us. It was on my list of shows they should have continued. However, as I read the book I was blown away. Suddenly, I was glad the TV show didn't continue.
When I entered the world of Harry Dresden it felt like entering an old detective novel. An average, if a bit grumpy, man looking for another job to pay the bills and feed his cat. Yet, Harry Dresden is more than that. He is a wizard and an extremely powerful one at that. Not to mention his near constant wise cracks and inability to back down gets him into lots of trouble at breakneck speed.
The story catches you from the beginning, with the lure of a murder mystery, and magic to sate your imagination. Never has a story not only put me on the edge of my seat, but Harry's humor had me laughing throughout the ride. Jim Butcher paints clear scenes and detailed explanations of his magical world. He explained magic without be ambiguous, or confusing you with too much at once. Well written and cleverly played out, Butcher quickly put himself to my top five favorite authors with this series. His take on modern fantasy is amazing. You will not get bored with this series. Butcher ups his game every book, with more daunting odds for Harry to overcome.
I would recommend this series to anyone sixteen and up. It is more adult and progressively gets darker every book. However, the risk is well worth the reward.
To sate your latest craving for magic and mystery, just look up Harry Dresden. He's in the book.

Kicking Off
Welcome to Fireplace Readers!
This blog will feature books we have read, or are currently reading. We hope you enjoy what we have to say. We will give you our very honest opinions and try to be as fair with our ratings as possible. We made this blog because we love books so much and we wanted to start a book club for ourselves and others.
Note: That we will be reading primarily fantasy unless Elven and I find a book that is noteworthy outside that genre but that may be unlikely.
Cheers, and enjoy!!
